Delhi metro erects first U-girder in Phase-IV work

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday erected first-ever U-girder on the Janakpuri West-R K Ashram Marg corridor. With this, a major milestone was achieved by the DMRC in the Phase-IV work.

The U-girder was installed erected near the Kali Mata Temple. It is located between the upcoming Pushpanjali and Deepali Chowk metro stations at the Outer Ring Road. Track lying can be done immediately on the U-girders. They are precast pre-tensioned, U-shaped girders.

“This is a standard span with twin U-girders of 28 m length each in one span and the total weight of one U-girder is approximately 160 MT. This is a major milestone for DMRC, as despite several constraints due to the ongoing pandemic, this important component of the construction work could be started,” the Delhi Metro said in a statement.

As per a DMRC official, the casting of U-girders was started at designated casting yard in Mundka in June. He said that 780 girders will be erected in this contract.

The 28.92 km long Janakpuri West – R K Ashram Marg corridor is a part of Magenta Line. There will be 22 stations on the corridor. The work on the corridor was started in December last year.
