New Delhi: After breaching the 7,000 mark of new coronavirus cases a day before, Delhi on Saturday registered close to 6,953 new cases, taking the cumulative tally to 4,30,784. For the fifth consecutive day, Delhi reported more than 6,000 new cases.

The number of new cases reported came out of 57,433 tests conducted on the previous day. Of which, 15,409 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 42,024 were rapid antigen tests. The positivity rate was 12.19 per cent on the previous day.

The worsening of the coronavirus situation was proven as the city witnessed the highest death figure in over four months. 79 patients died from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours. 64 deaths were recorded on Friday, 66 on Thursday, 51 on Wednesday, 48 on Tuesday, 42 on Monday, 51 on Sunday and 41 on Saturday. 

6,338 patients recovered from the deadly disease, taking the total recovery figure to 3,83,614 in the national capital. The recovery rate was 89.05 per cent.

The new cases outnumbered the recoveries by a significant margin on Friday. Active cases increased by 536 in the last 24 hours. Delhi has now 40,258 active cases. The active cases figure was at its highest level so far on Friday. 

A total of 24,100 patients are in home isolation in the national capital. Out of the total 15,904 beds in the Covid hospitals, 8,046 are lying vacant.
