New Delhi: The record for highest single-day spike in new coronavirus cases was broken as Delhi reported 7,745 cases on Sunday. This is the second time in three days when the 7,000 mark was breached in the national capital. Now, the cumulative tally has reached 4,38,529.

The number of new cases reported came out of 50,754 tests conducted on the previous day. Of which, 15,982 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 34,772 were rapid antigen tests. The positivity rate was 15.26 per cent.

77 patients died from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 6,989. 79 deaths were recorded on Saturday, 64 on Friday, 66 on Thursday, 51 on Wednesday, 48 on Tuesday, 42 on Monday and 51 on Sunday.

6,069 patients recovered from the deadly disease, taking the total recovery figure to 3,89,63 in the national capital. The recovery rate was 88.86 per cent.

The new cases outnumbered the recoveries by a significant margin on Sunday. Active cases increased by 1,599 in the last 24 hours. Delhi has now 41,857 active cases. The active cases figure was at its highest level so far on Sunday. 

A total of 24,723 patients are in home isolation in the national capital. Out of the total 16,027 beds in the Covid hospitals, 7,955 are lying vacant.
