Residents demand restoration of zebra crossings in Noida

Noida: With erection of walls that divides the roads in two parts, many zebra crossings for pedestrians got obstructed. It is causing problems for residents as they have to walk down a little longer to cross the road. It is also not safe for them.

Considering this issue, Confederation of NCR residents welfare association wrote to Ritu Maheshwari, chief executive officer of Noida Industrial Development Authority, demanding restoration of the zebra crossings in the city.

In the letter, it said that it would like to appreciate that the authority is carrying out works of building road dividers on busy roads to avoid wrong side drives. It would also help to mitigate the issue of traffic jams and people would be encouraged for lane drives.

PS Jain, president of CONRWA said that while development of many road dividers have already been completed, it created huge problems for pedestrians. They have to cross the road at busy junctures, which may prove fatal or unsafe as well.

He complained that while development of dividers, many zebra crossings were closed down. It should be opened for safe passage of pedestrians as it is required. If the crossings are not opened, this may not be safe for all using the services.

He said, “It would be very safe for pedestrians if all the previously made zebra crossings are restored as they can cross the road safely while the traffic lights are green for pedestrians.
