Dwarka: With the restrictions in place at the public places, the devotees of Chhath Puja are celebrating the festival at their respective homes. This time, the people have no option but to offer prayers from home seeing the bad coronavirus situation in the city.

However, keeping their spirits in place, people are finding new ways to celebrate Chhath Puja. They are making Chhath ghats at artificial swimming pools of children, bath tubs etc. They are planning to keep these things in their balconies or terraces and offer prayers.

A resident of Heritage Tower in Sector 3, Namitha Chaudhry, who has been doing Chhath Puja for the last seven years in Dwarka shared, “Earlier, five families used to celebrate puja at terrace of A block. But this year, only two families are doing it at the terrace and the other two are doing it separately. I am doing it on my balcony. I have bought a kids’ rubber swimming pool and I will use it as Chhath ghat to pay Arghya to Sun God. This is a compromise and devotees are doing that this year. Covid-19 has made the situation worse and the puja is definitely affected adversely in Delhi.”

Many devotees are either not doing the puja or have gone to their native places to celebrate the festival.

Priyanka Singh, a resident of Sector 5 said, “I am not doing the puja this year as I cannot do it alone. Due to Covid-19, the puja is not allowed in groups and that is a great problem for devotees like us with a small kid. I have asked my sister-in-law to do it for me at the village. This can be done just to continue the puja. But I am feeling very bad.”
