Dwarka: Water crisis for residents near Ashirvad Chowk

Residents meet DJB officials and contemplate a demonstration if the problem is not solved within a week.

Dwarka: Water crisis for residents near Ashirvad Chowk Residents and RWA members of societies affected with poor water supply meet DJB officials.

Water crisis has hit residents of societies around Ashirwad Chowk. Societies like Harmony apartments (Sector 4), Surabhi Apartments (Sector 11), DDA SFS flats (Sector 5) and several other societies are grappling with a short supply of water from the Delhi Jal Board.

According to them, they get water supply for only 10 to 15 minutes a day. Mahesh Gupta, general secretary of DDA SFS Flats RWA, Sector 5 Pocket 1, said, “We have been facing the problem for over a month. We are dependent on (water) tankers from DJB or private tankers. We need 8 to 9 tankers for our 364 flats but DJB provides one or two (tankers) only on request. So we end up buying water from tankers of private suppliers. DJB should take up the issue and solve our problem.”

Gupta added that the supply to societies like Harmony Apartments, Surabhi Apartments and DDA SFS Flats come from the underground water reservoir (UGR) in Sector 4. As the UGR is not filled properly, the supply is affected. “UGR at Sector 4 gets water from the Command Tank 3. The supply to UGR from the command tank is inadequate and so our supply is affected,” said Gupta.

The RWAs of the aforementioned societies have approached the DJB officials over the issue. Kusum Bhatt, president of Harmony apartment RWA, said, “We went to the DJB officials concerned at the DDA office in Sector 5. We were about 30 people and asked them to do the needful as soon as possible.”

The situation has reached a point where residents are saying that they would organise a demonstration if the problem is not resolved within a week. Gupta said, “We are planning to raise our voice in a more effective way by organising a demonstration. We have approached the MLA and DJB officials, and are waiting for their response,” said Gupta.

One of the DJB officials told City Spidey, that the water supply to the particular command tank is low, affecting the supply to the UGR and, consequently, to the societies . He added that the issue has been conveyed to higher officials.
