Don’t risk getting robbed over a glass of water

A new biker gang alarms Greater Noida police after a spate of robberies where criminals enter houses on the pretext of thirst and loot residents at gunpoint.

Don’t risk getting robbed over a glass of water Picture used for representative purpose only.

Imagine someone asks you for a glass of water and then robs you at gun point when you open the door. This is the modus operandi of a gang of bikers active in Greater Noida.

The gang is known to conduct a recce of an area and identify houses where women and children are alone during day time. Two youth come on a bike and press the doorbell. When they see a woman opening the door, they ask for a glass of water. When she turns to fetch water, the robbers overpower the woman at gunpoint. And before fleeing with the loot, they ensure that they take all mobile phones and disconnect the landline phone too. They also lock the doors from outside as they leave.

Such incidents have been reported from Omicron-1, Beta-2, and Gamma sectors of Greater Noida and also from the adjoining Kulesara, Dadri and Chhapraula areas. The last such incident was reported today (Friday) from Badalpur area where a house was robbed in a similar fashion by motor-cycle borne youth.

After a spate of such crimes, an alarmed Greater Noida police department has instructed all its station officers (SOs) to spread awareness among residents that such a gang is operating in the area. The police is advising people not to open the door for people they don’t know and inform the police if they see any suspicious-looking person at their doorstep.
