RESIDENT SPEAK: Seniors Hub Dwarka kept elders busy during pandemic

Dwarka: It has been a very challenging period for elderly ones during the coronavirus pandemic as they were not advised to venture out even for morning and evening walks and stay put at their homes.

But we at Seniors Hub Dwarka, a registered NGO, set up with the objective of facilitating human connectivity among senior citizens of Dwarka sub city, have been keeping them occupied.

During pre-Covid period, we used to meet quite often at the hub lounge in Sector 19 but during this period of Covid-19, this has come to a halt.

As the lockdown was enforced, we continued many activities which provided physical and emotional support to people of Dwarka in general and its members in particular. Some of such efforts have been awareness talk series and webinars.

Webinars were organised on Benefits of Ayurveda Treatment; Eradication of Diabetes, BP and Heart Diseases through Ayurveda; Cataracts, Cancer, Kidney, Urinary problems Precautions; Tips to Deal with Stomach Pain and Gallstones; Ear, Nose & Throat Disorders; Cardiac Risk Management; Digital Literacy; Awareness on How To Prevent Online Frauds; Health Insurance; and Road Safety.

Further, Sanjeevani Ayurveda, an Ayurvedic Clinic, especially made posters for SHD members, depicting the guidelines regarding the precautions on Covid-19 to be observed by senior citizens.

They were physically distributed in over 100 societies and shared on social media.

Ramesh Bidhuri, South Delhi MP, donated one sanitisation machine to SHD which was in turn donated to Sahaj Sambhav, a nasha mukti centre, who needed it the most.

We also distributed 3-layer masks, totalling 1,000 in number, to all members and Dada Dev Hospital courtesy Vijay Pandit, one of the members of SHD.

During this period, we presented appreciation certificates to selected corona warriors of Dwarka for their contribution to the society at the cost of their own health. These service professionals included doctors, paramedical staff, police, utility managers, social activists, journalists, bureaucrats, social activists and elected representatives.

Looking at the activeness of our members, not only the medical fraternity but Dwarka Police has also been interacting with us, including taking the services of our president to be part of their security drive and me for including in their social and media friends group.
