UP Pollution Control Board takes Prateek Group to task

The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board recently served a notice to real estate developer Prateek Group for flouting norms at Prateek Laurel, a residential society in Sector 120, Noida, and warned of action against the group if it fails to comply.

The builder installed five diesel generators at Prateek Laurel to meet power supply requirements of the society in case of a shortage. But, the builder has not installed exhaust pipes for these generators, which, consequently, cause pollution.

According to pollution control board norms, noise must be moderated when running a diesel generator in a residential area. It should be below 55 dB from 6 am to 9 pm and 44 dB from 9 pm to 6 am.

The notice stated that the prescribed norms for pollution control in the society were being violated. Officials of pollution control board had visited the site and found gross violation of the rules.

The board intimated DK Kaushik, general manager of Prateek Group, about the issue and instructed to instal exhausts for the generators. The builder has also been told to obtain an environment clearance certificate failing which the builder would be held liable.

The notice was served following a site inspection by pollution control board officers. Ved Prakash, a resident, had registered a complaint with the Noida Pollution Control Board office in July over the issue.
