Coming up, well-guarded parks in Dwarka

Residents of Dwarka can now breathe easy, as Delhi Development Authority has decided to deploy 50 security guards in each of the zones to revamp the security of its many parks. The decision was taken at a DDA meeting at Raj Niwas today.

In Dwarka, there are hundreds of parks under the DDA, and security posed a challenge. The decision was taken in the light of problems such as petty theft, harassment by miscreants in parks, stealing of steel grilles and other similar issues. The chief engineers of each zone will employ the guards for a year.

The RWAs and other resident bodies have welcomed the move. The secretary of Dream Apartments, TC Batra, lauded the effort, saying, “There was a dire need of security in the parks, as they were not safe any more. If the DDA deploys guards, it will dispel the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.”

President of Dwarka Forum and a resident of Ekta Apartments in Sector 3, Madhuri Varshney, said, “This is a welcome move, but the DDA should also focus on the arrangement of lights and proper maintenance in parks.”

At the meeting, Request for Proposals, or RFPs, to develop city-level, high-density, mix-use hubs in Dwarka, Rohini and Narela were also approved. Through this, the DDA intends to appoint consultants to develop economic, commercial and residential hubs in the vacant and scattered lands in these three areas. For Dwarka, the RFP has already been floated. According to the DDA, 154 hectares of land in Dwarka, 259 hectares in Rohini and 218 hectares in Narela need to be developed.

A few other decisions were also taken at the meeting, such as transfer of building activities from the DDA to the MCD, a 100 per cent waiver on dues or overdues for Kashmiris allotted one-room flats.
