Seniors Hub Dwarka, a registered NGO, took the responsibility of facilitating the process of Covid-19 vaccination for its members, mostly senior citizens, anticipating difficulties in getting the vaccine. There were informational gaps to be filled in and process formalities to be addressed.
Major issues involved getting registrations done in the app, selecting the right hospital, and then scheduling where to get the vaccination as there was a huge waiting list in almost all hospitals and dispensaries.
Seniors Hub Dwarka contacted all the hospitals in Dwarka – both private and government – for getting a special counter for its members. Almost all hospitals responded positively with a rider of time constraint.
After evaluating the time frame, ease of operation and the facilities offered by the hospitals, Seniors Hub Dwarka decided to approach Vimal Chhiber, Managing Director of Human Care Medical Charitable Trust, for getting it done in Manipal Hospital.
Over 50 of our members got themselves registered in 2 groups on March 4 and March 5 during the first phase of the process.
Under the leadership of Chhiber and Dr. Raman Bhaskar, Director, it was smooth sailing with each person getting their vaccination in about 15-20 minutes. The total time taken including the waiting time and the observation time was not more than one hour.
For remaining members, the vaccination drive is being coordinated with the hospital authorities in batches of 10-15 people, in accordance with convenience of other members and the hospital authorities. For us, the seniors, it was a reunion of sorts as we met each other after one year of an in-house arrest because of the lockdown, which came as a bonus with the vaccine.
