Gurgaon’s crime graph charts a new trend. Most cases that have been reported in the recent past involve developers and builders, who have been accused of duping buyers of lakhs and crores in the name of selling flats to them.
Just a few days back, two such cases were reported in two police stations. The cases were investigated by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Gurgaon Police, and the complainants, or the buyers, were found right in their allegations.
The first one was reported from DLF Phase 1 police station. According to the FIR, a certain Neeraj Jain had booked a flat with Paul Infrastructure Pvt Ltd in 2006 and had paid Rs 2.75 lakh for it. Now, when he is trying to contact the builder, he's not getting any response.
In the other case, Sarika Gupta of Delhi paid Rs 50.5 lakh to two people named Lalit Kumar and Yashpal Bhardwaj. They were to give her a flat in lieu of the payment, but she was neither given possession of the flat, nor was her money refunded. After an EOW investigation, the police filed a case against Lalit Kumar and Yashpal Bharadwaj.
Such cases are becoming regular in the city and people are finding it increasingly difficult to trust any builder. Surprisingly, many cases have been registered against well-known developers as well, making it difficult for buyers to tell the genuine ones from the fraudsters.
