New Delhi: It has been a practise to donate the used and old clothes, however, not all of those donated pieces can be used because of their condition and thus they become a waste of resources.

Gaurav Dutt, founder of Ecotroop Foundation and a resident of Rohini, working as a social worker, has started an initiative of using torn old clothes for making carpets and bags. This initiative was started on November 1, 2018.

The process starts with separating good and torn-out clothes. While the clothes in good condition are donated further to the needy people, the torn out clothes are further sent to be upcycled into carpets and bags by workers in Sonipat.

They receive donations of clothes from Noida, Ghaziabad, Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurgaon. They sell these items through Facebook and WhatsApp.

Dutt says, “Earlier we used to collect plastic waste from people but then we started receiving clothes from them, not every cloth was in good condition so we thought of this idea of upcycling to carpet and bags.”
