Well-known Bollywood actor Yashpal Sharma visited CitySpidey office on Saturday. In a free-wheeling chat with all those present he spoke about his upcoming film on Haryanvi folk musician Dada Lakhmichand, his alma mater National School of Drama and his career in films. Yashpal Sharma is best known for his strong and forceful potrayals in films like Lagaan, Rowdy Rathore, Gangaajal, Singh is Kinng, and others.

He reminisced about how he met his wife as a young workshop participant in the National School of Drama. He remembered how he participated in many quality theatre productions based on western and greek plays.

He also shared about how he got the dream role of 'Lakha' in Lagaan. He received a pager message from Ashutosh Gowariker to meet him. What followed was a long narration of the script for around four hours following which he grabbed the role. He also shared as to how Aamir Khan's former wife Reena Dutta offered him 1.5 lakhs for the role when he expected way less for a struggler like him.

When asked about how web series had changed the landscape of stories in Bollywood, he opined that he was happy about the variety of subjects that the web series handle. However, he expressed concern about the excess use of expletives in the web series shown these days.

He inquired about the CitySpidey platform as well as our parent company’s SpideyManage gate management software and was curious about the various features that are built in it.

Sharma was born in a middle-class family in Hisar, Haryana. His father was an employee in the Haryana government in Public Works Department (PWD). He completed his graduation from the National School of Drama, New Delhi, in 1994.Govind Nihalani's film, Hazaar Chaurasi ki Maa was his first big break in which he acted alongside Jaya Bachchan, and Nandita Das. He won Whatashort Independent International Film Festival for Moksha (Short film) in 2016 and was also nominated for Filmfare Best Villain Award for Gangaajal, IIFA Best Performance in a Negative Role for Gangaajal.
