Delhi Metro to run extra trips in August

DMRC has decided to run additional train trips during Raksha Bandhan and on weekends this month. The decision was taken to tackle the spike in ridership in August each year, with public holidays such as Independence day, Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami lined up this month.

Delhi Metro will run 106 extra train trips on the eve and on the day of Raksha Bandhan (August 17 and August 18). On Saturdays, 34 extra trips and on Sundays, 95 extra trips have been planned to even out the traffic load. According to DMRC, there is a 5% increase in the number of passengers travelling by Metro in the month of August as compared to the average ridership throughout the year (About almost 1 to 1.5 lakh extra passengers per day this month).

To manage the extra trips and passengers, DMRC will deploy additional personnel at stations to cater to the extra rush of commuters. Guards and Customer Facilitation Agents (CFA) will be deployed at major Metro stations to guide commuters on August 17 and 18. In addition, extra personnel will also be deployed to handle the increased load on the ticketing system.
