New Delhi: As Delhi records the highest single-day spike in fresh Covid infections, again, more steps and measures need to be taken in order to curb the spread and ensure proper disposal of medical waste in the city. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has issued new provisions in order to remove bio-medical waste from the houses of covid positive persons.
Narendra Chawla, Leader of the House, on April 16 said that the SDMC has made special arrangements to pick garbage from the homes of Covid-19 positive patients. He also said that the civic body has issued helpline numbers in the wake of the rising Covid-19 cases in all four zones. The houses with Covid positive cases can call on these helpline numbers and a team from the concerned zone will reach there for the garbage removal. The numbers are:
Najafgarh Zone: 8010863863, South Zone: 011 -40988800, West Zone: 011-49506548 and Central Zone: 7290041009 & 7290041008
Chawla also said that the SDMC has specially deployed 53 auto-tippers for picking up bio-medical waste in all four zones. A system has been developed to dispose of Covid-19 waste in a scientific manner. The auto-tippers have been reserved and all four zones have made the arrangements in this regard.
All sorts of safety precautions are being taken during garbage removal to contain the spread of the deadly virus. Necessary items like gloves, PPE kits, masks, etc are being made available to Safai Sainiks, healthcare workers (HCWs), and all frontline workers (FLWs).
