New Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai after a long wait. With this, DC recorded their third win of the season.
It was a low-scoring match and it was due to the spirited bowling of experienced leggie Amit Mishra in first half of the game. In the 9th over, Amit Mishra came into the attack and that spell totally changed the complexion of the game.
Mishra took two crucial wickets of MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. And then there was a huge collapse of MI’s batting line-up. They had no answers to the DC bowlers.
Mishra took four wickets while Avesh Khan took two wickets. There was some hope for MI but a couple of no-balls by Jasprit Burmah totally turned the match into DC side.
Again in Chennai, it was a low-scoring match. Amit Mishra’s fantastic bowling and Shikhar Dhawan’s patient knock of 45 helped DC to defeat defending champions Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets. It was DC's 1st win over MI in the last five matches, having lost four times in IPL 2020.
Dhawan, who has been in the form in this season, once again top-scored for his team with 45 runs off 42 balls. Smith who played his second match for DC also returned among the runs and scored 33 runs off 29 balls. After that, Lalit Yadav (22*) and Shimron Hetmyer (14*) helped DC to Defeat MI in just 19.1 overs.
Dhawan became the first batsman to breach the 200-run mark this season and his 231 runs also unify his position at the top of the Orange Cap list.
At the end of the game, Shikhar Dhawan said, “Totally opposite to Wankhede, feeling great to win in Chennai, feels good when you can beat a team like Mumbai Indians, the confidence level will naturally go high.”
