The newly-elected Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of Suryodaya Apartments, a residential society in Pocket 8, Sector 12, Dwarka, has prioritised its areas of focus. Top on the priority list are issues related to internal roads, damaged electric poles and garbage collection.

Surya Pal Singh, president of RWA, said, “We are not happy with South Delhi Municipal Corporation as far as garbage collection is concerned. They are irregular in lifting the garbage from the main gate where we have put dustbins. They only come on calls. This is not a good approach and they should clear the garbage daily. We are taking up the issue with the persons concerned.”

Members of the RWA said that many streetlights inside the society are in a damaged state due to rusting at the base. They added that in many poles, the wires are damaged. “Some poles have fallen down and some are about to fall. We have informed the area councillor and the area MLA. We have also asked them to replace old poles with new ones and replace damaged wires,” said GR Sharma, treasurer of the RWA.

According to the RWA, internal roads need to be repaired and fogging has not been done to curb the breeding of mosquitoes. SM Pillai, the vice-president of RWA, said, “All roads inside the society are damaged and we are waiting for a response from the authority. Besides that, we are grappling with the breeding of mosquitoes. Last year, fogging and spraying was done. But since then, nothing has been done by the corporation.”

Earlier, RWA elections were held in the society. While Surya Pal Singh was elected as the president, SM Pillai was elected as the vice-president. SK Dhiman became the general secretary and PB Tiwari was elected as the secretary. RS Rahi became the joint secretary while GR Sharma was elected as the treasurer. The three executive committee members of the RWA are Raj Trivedi, Vinod Ahlawat and DS Bisht.
