Vaibhav Khand, I'puram: Time to clean the streets

Residents blame encroachments in the neighbourhood's common areas for breeding antisocial elements and polluting the overall environment.

Vaibhav Khand, I'puram: Time to clean the streets

Residents of societies in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, complain that encroachments around societies have caused a rise in antisocial elements in the neighbourhood.

They say the shops that have encroached upon common areas in the neighbourhood have become a hub for miscreants and ganja (marijuana) peddlers.

Mohit Mishra, president of HRC Professional Hub, a residential society in the area, says that it is not uncommon to see people lying inebriated on pavements in front of the shops. "College kids from residential societies score drugs from these shops. The encroachments have polluted the environment around here. This threat needs to be dealt with immediately," he adds.

Residents of Mishra's society held a protest against these encroachments on Sunday.

City Spidey took up the matter with YN Chaudhry, head of GDA's enforcement cell. "GDA has been conducting anti-encroachment drives all across Indirapuram. If problems persist, GDA revisits the area and takes necessary action. The next drive is scheduled on Wednesday and will be carried out in Ahinsa Khand 2," Chaudhry said.
