Tributes poured in after Dilip Kumar's demise

On Wednesday morning, India woke up to a shocking news. At the age of 98, legendary actor Dilip Kumar or best known as ‘Tragedy King’, passed away at Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital. The news was confirmed by Dr Jaleel Parkar, Pulmonologist. Parkar was treating the veteran actor.

The late actor had been suffering from age-related medical problems throughout the previous few days and had been admitted to the hospital multiple times. He was admitted to the emergency unit of Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital on June 30. Kumar's wife Saira Banu had been with him all through. His family friend, Faisal Farooqui shared a tweet through Kumar’s handle, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return. - Faisal Farooqui.”

As the news broke, the whole industry got shocked and started sharing their memories with the actor. Amitabh Bachchan shared a tweet, “T 3958 - An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian  Cinema will be written , it shall always be 'before Dilip Kumar, and  after Dilip Kumar'. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to  the family to bear this loss . Deeply saddened (sic)”

Lata Mangeshkar wrote on Twitter, “यूसुफ़ भाई आज अपनी छोटीसी बहन को छोड़के चले गए.. यूसुफ़ भाई क्या गए, एक युग का अंत हो गया. मुझे कुछ सूझ नहीं रहा. मैं बहुत दुखी हूँ,  नि:शब्द हूँ. कई बातें कई यादें हमें देके चले गए. यूसुफ़ भाई पिछले कई सालों से बिमार थे, किसी को पहचान नहीं पाते थे ऐसे वक़्त सायरा भाभी ने सब छोड़कर उनकी दिन रात सेवा की है उनके लिए दूसरा कुछ जीवन नहीं था. ऐसी औरत को मैं प्रणाम करती हूँ और यूसुफ़ भाई कीं आत्मा को शान्ति मिले ये दुआ करती हूँ.”

Anil Kapoor shared a picture on Instagram with Dilip Kumar and captioned, “Our world is a little less bright today because one of our brightest stars has left us for the heavens. Dilip Sahab was very  close to my father and I had the tremendous honor of sharing screen-space with him in 3 of my most memorable films...He was and will always be the finest & greatest actor of our industry for me...he has inspired generations of artists. Anupam Kher shared an emotional video on Twitter, he tweeted, “The legend lives on!! There is and there will always be a part of  #DilipKumar Saab in every Indian actor for generations to come! His performances were like magic. Thank you Sir for those amazing moments I could spend with you! You taught me so much about life, living & acting!”

Madhuri Dixit Nene shared a tweet with beautiful pictures on Twitter, “Every now & then some individuals come along who single-handedly alter the present & write history... One such legend was Dilip saab for the world of cinema.” She added, “I was fortunate to have spent some time with him both on & off screen and I'll cherish those memories forever. Praying for the peace of his departed soul & my heartfelt condolence to the family RIP.”

Sanjay Dutt shared a tweet on Twitter, “So many special moments with Dilip Saab... he was like a father figure in my life. A huge loss for the film fraternity and for all of us, we have lost a legend today. My deepest condolences to Sairaji, may God give her strength in this tough time.”

Akshay Kumar poured his emotions in a tweet, “To the world many others may be heroes. To us actors, he was The Hero. #DilipKumar Sir has taken an entire era of Indian cinema away with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Om Shanti.”

Raveena Tandon tweeted, “A legend passes away, a gap that can never be filled, A true Giant, a kind loving soul to the very end. #DilipKumar Omshanti.”

Farhan Akhtar shared a post on Instagram with caption, “Sad day for the Hindi film industry and film audiences across the world. Dilip Kumar saab was truly an institution of acting. One could learn so much from watching his films and only dream of coming close to his incredible craft and delicate nuance. Thank you for the films, the performances and the memories, Yusuf saab RIP. Deepest condolences to Saira-ji & family.”

 

Ajay Devgn shared a tweet with a picture of his and Dilip Kumar, “Shared many moments with the legend...some very personal, some on stage. Yet, nothing really prepared me for his passing away.  An institution, a timeless actor. Heartbroken. Deepest condolences to Sairaji.”

Mahesh Babu shared a tweet, “A timeless legend. His towering brilliance will continue to be an inspiration to actors all around the world. A huge loss for Indian cinema...Rest in peace #DilipKumar Sir. You will be terribly missed.”

Riteish Deshmukh shared a post on Instagram with a beautiful picture with late actor, he captioned, “Every actor that faces the camera today will thank Dilip Sahab for the being their teacher. Truly an  institution. Am completely heartbroken today, will miss his pat on my back, his smile with a twinkle in the eye and fond kisses on my forehead. Dilip Sahab- you will always be the king amongst kings.  Greatest of all times. You were a hero to every generation. Rest in glory Sir.
