Greater Noida: The Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) on Saturday launched a month-long plantation drive near Kisan Chowk in Greater Noida West.

On the occasion, Ashok Arora, General Manager of Greater Noida  Authority, and BP Singh, Manager of Horticulture Department, planted the saplings of Neem and Peepal. Members of NEFOWA, Apartment Owners Association (AOA) presidents of 12 societies and many residents were present during the plantation drive.

NEFOWA has planned to carry out a plantation drive on every Saturday and Sunday for next one month. Mostly, saplings of Neem and Peepal will be planted. Around 200 saplings will be planted every week. They have set a target of planting around 1,000 saplings in the whole month.

Abhishek Kumar, President of NEFOWA said, “NEFOWA has been planting saplings in the area for many years. So far, thousands of saplings have been planted. We don't just plant saplings but also ensure that the plants get water and fertilisers regularly.”

“Everyone took a pledge to save the environment. They said that until the area becomes completely green, they will continue the plantation drive,” he said.

Kumar concluded, “While planting saplings, we ensure that the saplings are planted on the central verge of roads or on the green belt of the authority. We do this for the protection of plants. This way the plants are safe from cows, buffalo or any other animal.”
