Cops ask DMRC to keep vigil at 7 stations in view of farmers' protest

New Delhi: In view of the 'Sansad Gherao' call during the Monsoon Session of Parliament by the agitating farmers, the Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to put seven Metro stations under extra vigil and shut them in case there is a need.

The police said that officials have been asked to keep extra vigil at Janpath, Lok Kalyan Marg, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House and Udyog Bhawan. The order is effective from the start of Monsoon Session on Monday (July 19) till it gets over.

The police said that action has been taken to prevent farmers from reaching the protest sites. Earlier on Sunday, the farmers met Delhi Police officials and said that they want to participate in 'Sansad Gherao' during the Monsoon Session.

The letter was signed by DCP (Metro) Jitendra Mani. “Delhi Metro is the most favoured form of conveyance and protesters may use the Metro to reach/gather in the New Delhi area,” the letter said.

“DCP New Delhi has also requested to keep …extra vigil on…Metro Stations, which lies in the New Delhi area and maybe closed wef 19.07.2021 onwards till the Monsoon Session is over… to refrain the protestors from reaching the Parliament via Metro and to avoid any untoward incident,” read the letter.

Farmer unions have called 'Sansad Gherao' everyday till the Monsoon Session gets over to demand scrapping of three farmer laws and legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP).
