A shadow of its former self: Jalvayu Vihar

Once recognised as one of the finest residential areas in Noida, Jalvayu Vihar (Sector 21 and 25) now lies in a shambles.

The dilapidated boundary walls are pockmarked with bills and posters. The green belts developed by the department of Horticulture of Noida Authority in the area are reduced to dumping grounds for construction waste. The footpaths between Sector 21 and 25 are bustling with hawkers. A foul smell emanates from the open drain just outside the sector.

Residents of the Society allege that Noida Authority is to blame for not paying attention.

Squadron Leader (retired) DP Goel, Chairman of Jalvayu Vihar, is frustrated by the apathy shown by the Authority. He claims that their sole focus is on the so-called VIP sectors.

"Noida Authority withdrew all 30 sweepers provided to JVV. Now we arrange private sweepers for cleaning. There is no cooperation from the Authority for maintenance as well," claims Squadron Leader (retired) Goel. "There is no action on the numerous bills and posters pasted on the boundary wall despite provisions to fine the illegal advertisers," he added.

Goel believes that the Society can return to its past glory. But, only if Noida Authority wants.

"The estimate for covering of drains has been forwarded to the higher authority for approval. The work will be finished once it is approved," said SC Mishra, Project Engineer, Noida Authority.

City Spidey met the Project Engineer (Health), SK Gupta to ask why the sweepers were withdrawn. Gupta claimed to be unaware about the issue.

"We will look into it. The issue maybe pending in the file," he said.
