While Deputy Commissioner spoke of waterlogging only in illegal colonies, key intersections across the city remained submerged in water, causing heavy traffic snarls.

Gurgaon under 3-4 feet of water

Heavy rains lashed Gurgaon early Wednesday morning, leaving several areas waterlogged. Severe traffic snarls soon followed and vehicles were left stranded on the roads for hours.

Heavy waterlogging was reported from a number of key intersections, including Hero Honda Chowk, Sohna Road, Manesar, Sushant Lok, Udyog Vihar, Sector 12, Sector 7, Old Gurgaon Road and a few areas in New Gurgaon.

Though the snarls were cleared before noon, Old Gurgaon remained submerged in 3 to 4 feet of standing water today.

“I drove my bike in about 4 feet of standing water near Sector 7. It was horribly difficult, especially with open manholes,” said Inderjeet, a resident in Sector 7 Extension.

Gurgaon Police issued a traffic advisory on Twitter, requesting people to maintain lane discipline to avoid causing jams. The Tweet read: “Heavy rains in Gurgaon, please be advised. Be patient and maintain lane discipline, we are on the job to facilitate your movement.”

People also took to Twitter and Facebook to vent their anger.

Deputy Commissioner TL Satya Prakash said waterlogging had occurred only in illegal colonies. “The issues of waterlogging and jams have been mostly resolved. Police officials and the administration kept roads largely jam-free today,” he said.
