Noida: Cyclist who was hit by overspeeding car remains critical

Noida: Manish Jayal, a cyclist from Mayur Vihar Phase-I, was riding on DND Flyway, Noida when he was hit by an overspeeding car on Saturday morning. He was immediately taken to nearby Dharamshila Hospital. He is still in critical condition and being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Ever since that happened, people are talking about the need for proper infrastructure for cyclists in the city. President of Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Associations (NOFAA), Rajiva Singh tweeted about the incident raising the issue.

Singh tweeted on Sunday evening, “Our cyclist friend is fighting between life and death for the last 32 hrs. Do we cyclists keep living with the constant fear of being hit & our families keep worrying till the time we do not return home from rides?”

CitySpidey also talked to Singh, he said, “Our friend is still critical and struggling in hospital with multiple skull fractures despite a safety helmet. Imagine the kind of trauma the cyclist would have gone through. We keep expecting medals in International sports but we fail to provide basic safety and infrastructure for a cyclist on our roads.”

“Why can't we make our cities cycling-friendly? Why can't we have separate cycling tracks?” he questioned.
