Dwarka hotel fire: RWA had objected hotel operation in residential area

Dwarka: After an incident of fire at a hotel, the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 8 said that they had earlier informed the police and civic body Delhi Development Authority (DDA) about the operation of a hotel in the residential area.

In a talk on the subject, General Secretary of RWA, B Block, Sector 8, BS Tripathi said that he had sent a message to the concerned engineering department of DDA about the illegal operation of a hotel in the residential area. He also shared that a letter carrying information about the hotel was also handed over to the police.

The letter sent to the DDA in June 2021 read, “A hotel has been opened in B-260 of the B Block in Sector 8, Dwarka. Kindly discuss at your end whether opening a hotel in the residential plots is allowed as per DDA guidelines. Residents residing in the area have complained of doing illegal activities in the building. Kindly get it checked and take the necessary action as per DDA rules.”

Talking about the letter, Tripathi informed that there was no response from DDA. “The messages were sent to WD12 Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer on WhatsApp on June 19, 2021. The messages were read by everyone but no there was no reply to date.”

On the other hand, a letter was given to the police on August 14, 2021, by the RWA mentioning the illegal operation of a hotel in the area. As gathered, the police took action on the hotel earlier and also issued notice against its operation without a license. The hotel was being used as a guest house and was mostly in use for few hours by the guests.

A resident Amit Kumar said, “Commercial activities are rampant in the area and even basements are used to organise parties. This is dangerous as there is only one way for entrance and exit. We all are worried about yesterday's incident and it has become a burning topic. I have made a complaint to the authority.”

On Sunday, two persons died and four were injured in a major fire incident at a hotel in Sector 8, Dwarka. A male and a female died in the fire incident. The hotel was operating in a residential area.
