HUDA to take community centre bookings online

While residents feel this will make the process more transparent, HUDA employees and villagers are disappointed at having their earlier discounts slashed.

Tired of standing in queues when booking community centres? Here’s some good news. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has plans to take online bookings of community centres.

To make a booking, one would have to log in on HUDA’s website, go the community centre booking option and fill up a form. "If the community centre is available on the required date, the applicant will be directed to the payment gateway. Once the payment is registered, he or she will get a confirmation e-mail," a HUDA official told City Spidey.

The development has brought smiles to the faces of residents, as there were irregularities reported in bookings earlier. RS Mohapatra, a resident of Sector 31, said, “Earlier, whenever we approached the authorities for bookings, we were told the venue was already booked by someone else. But thanks to the system, there will be a measure of transparency to the process, as people will know the dates the community centre is booked, and can plan accordingly."

However, the move has not gone down well with HUDA employees and villagers whose land was acquired for developing the sectors. Till now, these two groups had to pay only Rs 4,000 per day, as against residents who had to shell out Rs 16,000 per day. Under the new plan, HUDA employees and villagers won’t get such discounts and will have to pay Rs 14,650. Residents will continue paying the same amount as before.

Sube Singh, a HUDA employee, said, “It is so disappointing that we will not be entitled to any discount despite being an employee of the organisation. We will talk to the administrator through our union and get the plan amended.”
