More rains in offing in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi: Heavy overnight rains lashed Delhi and its adjacent areas. It was a heavy downpour and something which is not so common in the national capital. As per weather experts, the city is expected to get few spells of heavy rains till August 24.

The adjoining cities Faridabad and Gurugram also received rainfall in the morning. It led to massive traffic jams and waterlogging on many roads.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in the capital. “Delhi has been declared under orange alert following heavy and continuous rain which caused several inundations,” said IMD.

In the morning, the IMD tweeted, “Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi ( Ayanagar, Deramandi), NCR ( Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Hindon AF  Station, Ghaziabad, Noida).”

On Saturday, Charan Singh, Senior Meteorologist, IMD said, “Light to moderate rainfall will occur tomorrow and very light rainfall is expected after that in Delhi.”

Meteorology Vice President at Skymet Weather, Mahesh Palawat tweeted, “Heavy downpour continues over many parts of Delhi-NCR. Heavy rain over Faridabad since 3 am. Dry weather from August 24.”

According to Skymet Weather, “Delhi rains are expected to continue for the next 2-3 days with varied intensity. These showers may see a  complete break only around August 24. Rains may not be as heavy as today but the possibility of a few heavy spells on various occasions cannot be ruled out. These showers will see a gradual decrease. Rainfall activity being on the lighter side on August 23.”
