Residents raise a stink over sewerage stench in sector 62

Noida: The residents of Meckon Apartments, Sector 62, Noida are annoyed with local authorities as, despite several complaints, no actions have been taken for the bad-smelling coming from sewerage water. According to the residents, this is a rainwater drain that runs along with the Meckon  Apartments. City Spidey spoke with the residents of Meckon apartments to know about their plight more closely.

Pushkar Raj Chandra, a resident of Meckon Apartments said, "The issue has been pending for almost 20 years and we have been writing to the authorities for many years now.  This open drain is being dumped with untreated water. These drains are also emitting gases and unbearable smells which are affecting the health of people, especially residents of Meckon apartments ".

According to Vinod Kumar, "The main issue with the drain is that it is a very big drain,  carrying a lot of filth and positioned adjacent to our society boundary wall. As a result, a lot of stench comes to society. Several harmful gases are generated in the drain such as methane, hydrogen sulphide etc which are highly pollutant and hazardous. This drain, being open, is also a safety hazard. Someone can easily fall. It has happened in the past. It is therefore of utmost  importance that either the drain is located on another side of the road  where residents are not there or the drain should be covered."

Harendra Mishra, another resident also cited that a girl had fallen into the drain a few days back. "A 9 ft rainwater drain is here which is dumped by chemical waste and sewer waste. I have complained about this issue to almost all the authorities, I have asked them to just stand near the apartments to know how worse the situation is, and how hazardous it is for the residents. The bad smell from the drain will likely give an overview of this situation. We cannot open our windows because of this smell. I  have even written this line to Ceo Noida to visit this place once to know the situation better. A few months ago a girl fell in this drain,  Luckily I was passing by and pulled the girl out."
