Electing a new panel, residents of Sector 56, Noida, voted out a decade-old RWA management committee on Sunday.

The election was conducted amid tight security — more than 15 armed cops were deployed at the election booth. Polling started at 9 am at the sector’s community centre and witnessed a huge turnout. Residents were checked at the entry. Contesting candidates were seen wooing voters outside the booth.

Polling continued till 1 pm and 323 residents cast their votes. The returning officer called in members of both the panels after lunch to begin counting around 2 pm. The sealed ballot box was opened by the returning officer in the presence of the panel members.

It took almost an hour to complete the counting process and prepare the list of winners. Sanyaj Mavi defeated his rival, Monhan Singh, who had held the post of president for a decade. While Mavi garnered 201 votes, Singh managed 117.

Mavi’s team, which included SS Malhotra, Mahendra Singh, Sant Ram, Alka Sood and Sanjeev Puri, vying for the posts of vice-president, general secretary, joint secretaries and treasurer, respectively, also emerged victorious with flying colours.
