Gurugram: RWA delegation meets MLA to request handover of park maintenance

Gurugram: A delegation of RWAs met the local MLA Sudhir Singla on Friday with a demand that the maintenance of the parks and community centres should be handed over to the RWAs of respective areas.

This is a major bone of contention between the RWAs and MCG councillors. The RWAs have submitted a memorandum to the MLA demanding the maintenance of neighbourhood parks and community centres. The ward committee is currently maintaining the park and community center in the city.

Sector-10A RWA President Udayvir Singh, Sector-9 President Prashant Chauhan, Ardee City President Praveen Yadav, Yogita Kataria along with other members of various RWAs were present during the meeting.

In the memorandum, RWAs said that parks and community centre were earlier maintained by the respective RWAs of the area and later, they were handed over to the ward committee, which don’t have representation from the residents.

“The councillors have a direct role in this as the member of the ward committee is nominated by them. All the powers of the RWAs has been taken away and residents have no say on any development work carried out in the sector,” said Yogita Kataria.

The delegation said that the condition of the parks and community centers under the ward committee is not good. Therefore, the maintenance work of the park and the community should be given back to the RWAs, so that it can be maintained well.

“The RWA is not asked for any development work by the ward committee. We are elected body of residents and know more about the area as we are directly impacted,” said Prashant Chauhan.

MLA Sudhir Singla took a memorandum from the RWA representatives and assured them of resolving it. He said, “People should get facilities everywhere. Whether it is a park or a community center, all should be well maintained, so that people do not suffer. I will call a joint meeting of every stakeholders to resolve it.”
