Heavy rainfall creates chaos in Delhi-NCR

Noida: On Saturday morning, heavy rainfall lashed the National Capital Region (NCR) which caused waterlogging in several areas that led to traffic jams. The highly unusual monsoon season this year has broken all records, registering the highest rainfall in 46 years.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that the season has yielded 1,100 mm of rainfall in Delhi so far, and almost double the precipitation recorded last year.

At 1.30 pm, IMD shared a tweet, “Thunderstorm with heavy to very heavy intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi, NCR (Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater  Noida).”

IMD had issued an orange alert, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershowers with the gusty wind over Delhi-NCR between 7 am and 10 am on Saturday.

Residents of Noida started facing difficulties, a resident shared a tweet, “Due to heavy rains in Sec-47, Noida, water has been collected in parks which is a major cause for mosquito breeding, and that would subsequently cause diseases. I request you to start an antiviral chemical spraying in these parks ASAP. (sic)”
