Vasundhara Enclave: Ever since their covers were stolen three years back, drains around the society are both a danger and a health hazard to residents.

Residents of Paryatan Vihar Apartments, a residential society in East Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave, have been grappling with partially covered drains around their society for quite some time now.

Earlier, when the drains were covered, residents could used to take walks over the drains. According to Shivankar Gupta, a resident, it has been more than three years that the drain covers have been stolen. Garbage has also been collecting in the drains. “The issue has been raised time and again with the managing committee but to no avail,” he added.

Residents have been left with no option but to take walks on the busy roads on either side of the society. Dev Singh, another resident, said, “We residents can only give suggestions to the managing committee. But we are not the final authority. It is the committee that has to take the matter to the civic authorities.”

Vidya Joshi, president of the society, said the managing committee had taken up the issue and was trying to solve it. “We are also residents of this society and face the same problem," she said. "We are trying our best to get this solved as soon as possible.”

Once easy to walk on, these half-open drains now pose a danger to residents

The lack of covers has led to a lot of garbage collecting in the drains over time.
