Adarsh Apartments: Life in complete disarray after rain; authorities remain apathetic

Dwarka: Monsoon in Delhi comes as a relief after the scorching summers, however, the recent showers have taken an ugly turn in Dwarka’s Adarsh Apartments. The residents of the society are leaving their flats to get a shelter at a hotel or at some relatives place as Sector 3 Pocket 16 has seen no solution yet from waterlogging after the rain on Saturday morning.

As informed by the sufferers, they are compelled to leave the society as from Sunday morning till now, there is a crisis of water, electricity and other basic facilities for survival. People who were seen leaving the society interacted with CitySpidey and shared their plight.

Kaushalya, a resident, said, “Charging our mobile has become a tough task as there is no electricity. I have to go out to get my phone charged. Even going out has become difficult because the water is knee-deep. No action has been taken so far to help us. We have been told that water is being drained out, however, no change can be observed in the situation, though it's been more than 24 hours.”

Like Kaushalya, there are many other residents who have to step out of their homes to get some relief. People living on the ground floor are one of the worst sufferers as the water has entered their homes like an uninvited guest, causing nothing but an inconvenience. People are compelled to leave their homes and take shelter at hotel rooms or their relatives’ places.

Explaining the entire scenario, the efforts of the authorities and response from the public representatives like MLA and Councillor of the area, general secretary of RWA, Devesh Mundepi said that the MLA has not responded till now and the area councillor visited yesterday with SDMC officials and DJB officials.

“We tried multiple times to reach MLA of the area, Gulab Singh Yadav but he didn’t respond. As I gathered, he is in Gujarat these days. When we repeatedly contacted area councillor, Nitika Sharma, she came with SDMC officials and DDA officials. That too seemed more like a formality, yet we feel there is a bit of concern. However, as a whole, we got nothing but suffering. Civic bodies and the representative approach were not seen seriously and the entire pocket is facing an acute crisis. Not a single representative from the Delhi government has visited or taken concern for our lives. Corporation too seemed apathetic. What are we supposed to do now? People are in anger and that can explode anytime,” said Devesh.

As gathered today, DDA, DJB and SDMC officials took a round of the pocket and discussed the ongoing crisis with the residents. They assured that the issue would be resolved soon. But on the other hand, the president said that the approach and ongoing work are not effective and that there is no deadline for any solution causing panic among the people. As seen, the pockets were full of water yet there were pumping machines draining out water from the pocket.
