Sahyog Apts: Got a second car, but are you lucky enough?

This residential complex in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 has devised a quirky solution to its parking problems: Draw lots to win a spot for your second vehicle.

Sahyog Apts: Got a second car, but are you lucky enough?

If you just got yourself a second car, pray for luck. At least if you are in Sahyog Apartments, a co-operative group housing society in Mayur Vihar Phase 1. The managing committee of the housing complex simply draws lots when it comes to allotting parking space for a second car.

According to the norms set by the managing committee, only those residents who have won in the draw can park their second cars. If your luck happens to run out, you have no option but to park your vehicle outside the society premises.

The lots are drawn every year — the current period ended on August 31. So fresh draws will be held on September 18 at the society office. The managing committee also issued a notice that reads, "Residents who are interested in participating in the draw are requested to apply to the society’s office by September 17."

The idea is to have a transparent system on allotting parking slots and at the same time, evade conflicts between the residents and the managing committee. The complex has 225 flats.

City Spidey was informed that the society has only five second-car parking slots, for which the committee charges Rs 200 every month.

Gunjan Gupta, who heads the managing department of Sahyog Apartments, told City Spidey that the draw-lot system has been in practice for several years now. “The system was implemented after getting approval from both the managing-committee members and the residents,” she added.
