What's a motorcycle doing on a cycling track?

Even as Noida Authority plans to instal traffic lights on Noida's cycle tracks, city cyclists feel it will do nothing to keep encroachments and other vehicles off the lanes.

Noida Authority is all set to instal traffic signals on the city's cycle tracks from next month. In its first phase, signals will be installed on the stretch between Rajnigandha Chowk and Sector 10, at a budget of Rs 9 lakh.

Saumya Srivastav, DCEO of Noida Authority, told City Spidey that all encroachments will be removed before the installation works begin. "Noida Authority will take help from the traffic police to remove parked cars and vendors from the track across the city. We want cyclists to be comfortable using the tracks."

However, some cyclists feel traffic signals won't help much. "Traffic lights won't solve anything for us," said Reena Bajaj, a cyclist who stays in Sector 39, Noida. "The main problem are the encroachments and other vehicles, such as motorbikes, using the track. If they had to clear the encroachments, they would have done it by now. There is no thought for us cyclists. It's all a sham."
