Drains still open; authorities unresponsive in Dwarka

Dwarka: After one month of complaints and highlighting issues, there is still an untended problem of open stormwater drains across the sectors of  Dwarka.

One can see missing drain covers on the footpath at the corner of Sidhartha Kunj Apartments in Sector 7, Dwarka, and another open drain in front of the DDA vacant land between plot number 13, Sargodha Apartment, and plot number 14, Krishna Kunj Apartment, in Sector 7, Dwarka.

After repeated complaints by residents. However, officials have turned deaf ear to all their complaints as the problem still persists.

Despite DDA's reply to the complaint lodged on Twitter on September 9, nothing is done yet.
The issue has been duly noted and forwarded to the concerned department.

Residents of the society said that these drains should be covered as soon as possible as they are a threat to the people residing in the society.

Anil Nayal, Executive Member of Dwarka Forum, said, “It has been brought to the notice of Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Junior Engineer by sending photographs and still there is nothing done. Only temporary barricading is done which is of no use.”

Radhika Jain, a resident, said, “When will they pay attention to it, after the accident or any mishaps.”

The problem of open drains poses a threat of diseases such as malaria, dengue, skin infection, and many others.

Geetika Bansal, a resident of Dwarka, said, “This is total carelessness and ignorance of DDA Dwarka officials.”

Sonal Chauhan, a resident of Sector 7, said, “With most drains not being cleaned for a month or more now, most of these channels are full of silt and garbage too. It can bring lots of vector-borne diseases and authorities have turned deaf. So much carelessness is not what we expect from them.”

We have reached out to the Chief Engineer, DDA, Dwarka, and waiting for his response. We will update the story as soon as we get a response from their end.
