Dwarka gets its first RFID-based parking lot in Sector 14

Dwarka: The residents of Dwarka have got their first RFID-based parking space at Sector 14 metro station. FASTag system is also being implemented there. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has implemented the system of collection of parking charges through RFID to encourage online payment of parking fees.

The SDMC has also authorised Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL) to collect parking charges from Sector14 metro station parking lot and will remit the same with the civic agency.

The municipal corporation will reimburse the agency charge at the rate of 1 per cent of the transaction value to the IHMCL. According to the Mayor, the SDMC will launch the facility of paperless and cashless parking in its jurisdiction in the future.

The new system is time effective and cashless and when a vehicle comes out from the parking lot, parking fee will be deducted automatically from the RFID tag mounted on the glass.

CitySpidey visited the parking lot to see the new implementation. The lot looked rather empty with few cars and heavy vehicles parked there. CitySpidey talked to a Civil Defence official on duty there and got to know that not a lot of people have been parking there as the lot is still unfenced and there is fear of vehicle theft.

The fencing of the parking lot still needs to be done. The Civil Defence official on duty there, on the condition of anonymity, told us, “The people were more comfortable with the previous system. It will take time for them and us to adapt to this new cashless process. The work is still under progress here.”
