Dwarka: Drain overflow creates mess in Sec 9

Dwarka: Though monsoon rains provide respite from hot weather, they can also cause a lot of difficulties to people especially in urban areas. Sector 9 residents are bearing the brunt of it. The internal roads have been inundated by drain water.

Residents said that the drainage system of the entire sector has been in poor condition and there are many places that have no outlet. The lane in front of the ITL school and adjacent to Sector-9 police station has this problem. Drains are overflowing and it can lead to severe mosquito breeding.

They said that it is not the first time that they are facing waterlogging problem. They had faced the waterlogging issue last year as well.

Hitesh Sharma, a resident of Sector-9, said, “This is complete negligence on the part of civic bodies like Delhi Development Authority and Municipal Corporation of Delhi. If they had cleaned the drains before monsoon then we wouldn’t have faced this issue. They know that this problem happens after rain but still they failed to carry out cleaning of drains. We want the issue to be resolved and the internal drainage system to be maintained properly.”

Abhishek Jha, a resident of Dwarka, said, “It was a normal morning walk routine, I chose to take the less walked-by route to return but when I came across such a mess and filth, I was hugely disappointed. It was a beautiful path. The road has a police station with quarters and there are two schools nearby. The mosquito breeding season is not over yet. It is sad that no authority has taken cognizance of the problem.”
