Navratri Special: Shri Bala Ji's sabudana aloo tikki in Tilak Nagar

The Tilak Nagar Central Market is located in the heart of Tilak Nagar and is bustling with crowds during most of the day. One of the prime things that strike you about the market is its density and distinguished nature. This market is always a little overwhelmed with visitors. The variety of apparel and footwear is wide. There is not even a single item you won’t find in the Tilak Nagar market. It’s a real hub of clothing and footwear.

Special street treats for Navratri in Tilak Nagar

After the hustle-bustle in the market, you need something to fill up your stomach and boost your tired and lost energy. Tilak Nagar market is not just about clothing and footwear, you can easily spot food stalls and shops to ease your hunger. Momos, golgappe, burgers, pastries market has a lot to serve you with your favourites.

In the center of Tilak Nagar market, mall road, a unique food stall is only for Navratri devotees, where they can eat the hot stirring sabudana aloo tikki.

Delicious bowl of Balaji Aloo Tikki

I remember being a kid and dad bringing me here to eat this fantastic steaming sabudana aloo tikki.

Shri Bala Ji has been serving its delicious delicacies for the last 25 years. The usual item they sell is pao bhaji, but during Navratri, they sell famous sabudana aloo tikki. Harish Chander single-handedly takes care of his food stall. Sabudana tikkis are made into circles and then tossed into hot flaming oil and fried from both sides.Once the tikkis are golden and crispy, he removes the excess oil with the tissues and crushes them into the plate. The tikkis are then topped with red, green chutney and a spoonful of curd poured on it. At last, he just sprinkle his homemade masalas on the top and spread the tikkis with pomegranate. Your sabudana aloo tikki is ready with a dash of colours and flavours inside your mouth, making your Navratri flavourful and happening.

Work in progress at Balaji Aloo Tikki corner

I am a massive fan of their food, not just sabudana but pao bhaji too. The flavours are still the same as it was earlier. Shri Bala Ji is always crowded with customers, whether it’s his pao bhaji or tikki. His tikkis during Navratri is a blessing for people looking for budget-friendly yet flavourful food.

Like me, many customers have been visiting him for more than 20 years for his soulful food. Harish Chandra is always up for a quick chat; you may ask him anything about him and his food.

Shri Bala Ji food stall is located in the Tilak Nagar market on Mall road, beside Singla’s restaurant. You can easily travel here through the metro as it is right in front of the market entry.

During Navratri, if you are looking for the best Navratri food, this place is a must-visit. You won’t regret eating here, I am sure.

Happy Navratri, everybody!
