Greater Noida Authority has yet again imposed a fine of 4.03 lakhs rupees on the builder of EcoVillage 1, Sector 1, Greater Noida West for improper waste management. Earlier, on August 9, the authority inspected the society and imposed a fine of 2.01 lakh rupees for the non-disposal of garbage and instructed to dispose the garbage expeditiously. However, in the recent inspection done on October 31, no improvement in waste management was found.
CitySpidey talked to the residents of Ecovillage 1 to take their views on this. Sanjay Sharma, a resident said, “The fine won't affect the builder. Earlier as well the authority imposed a fine of 2 lakhs rupees but there was no improvement in the society's waste management. There is not only one issue. The society does not have a proper Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) as well. The condition of the basement is also bad. Authority should start imposing fine on a daily basis, maybe the builder will change their way to do work then.”

Another resident, Vijay Singh said, “This is a good step taken by the authority. However, authority should be more strict. We do not know why the authority is silent on the pending registry issue.”
Since 2016, Solid Waste Management rules are applicable in Greater Noida. Under this, the bulk waste generators such as high-rise societies, educational institutions etc. have to dispose off their garbage on their own. The authority only picks up the inert waste that cannot be recycled. On the instructions of the CEO of Greater Noida Authority, Narendra Bhushan, the team of the Public Health Department is conducting a campaign to audit the societies and also imposes a fine for non-disposal of garbage.
