Aravalli Bachao initiates online petition to save forest cover

The members of the Aravalli Bachao citizen movement,  aimed at saving the forest land, have started an online petition to stop the plans to reconstruct the 2% area of Aravalli in Haryana. According to them, such an act will eventually result in desertification, climate deterioration and environmental degradation. In the petition and Twitter campaign, they have called out the Chief Minister and all the elected leaders to render their support to the campaign and save the Aravalli from being depleted.

Adding to this campaign Neelam Ahluwalia from the Aravalli Bachao citizen movement said on the occasion of Haryana day, “Citizens living in the state with the lowest forest cover in India (3.62%) & cities with the highest air pollution & water stress present at 8 point action, plan to save the Aravalli, our lifeline without which life for millions of people living in the national capital region is not possible. We call the chief minister of Haryana and all other elected leaders to take action to save the oldest mountain range in India. Aravalli in Haryana only occupy 2% of the land area but are critical as the water recharge zone & shield against desertification for millions of people living in Haryana & NCR. Please sign and share the petition launched by the Aravalli Bachao group today.”

The petition requests the citizens to save Aravalli from desertification and reconstruction of the land as it will affect the water supply to millions of people.

The Aravalli Bachao movement is a step to conserve the environment and an endeavour to protect the Aravalli forest cover land from illegal mining and encroachments.
