Elevated grief- Connector road creates pollution problems for residents

Noida: The residents living in Lane -1, ward 2a of Sector 28 have complained that the elevated road called Maharaja Agrasen Marg flyover, adjacent to their colony is causing noise & air pollution. This elevated road is a straight road connecting highways and commuters going to Delhi use this road. Heavy traffic jams and mindless honking have made the life of residents of this locality tough.  36 families living in this particular ward are facing issues.

People living in this colony are suffering due to chaotic traffic and  nobody is sure when will things improve.

The peace-loving Rakhi Sinha, a resident of this locality, said, “I have been making attempts to bring this elevated road (Sec-27-62) issues of inhuman noise & air pollution to authorities’ glare. Today, I have discomfort in breathing. My eyes are burning. The noise on this road has always been so deafening. You breathe bad air every morning on the front balcony. Today it’s exceptionally bad. This road’s noise & pollution are life-affecting. The road of course stays. We cannot strike off the convenience it brings. But its operation must change to accommodate residents’ health. "

She added that it is taking a literal toll on mental health. Yoga, pranayama, meditation, anything healing to undo the impact of this road is impossible due to this road. "Shutting down windows is not a solution. You need a fresh exchange of air. Honking and noisy vehicles (due to their old or crude make or fuel type) and unnecessary vehicles plying at least in winters have to be checked. We understand it cannot be stopped, but even reduction will help."

Residents said that they cannot sleep at night due to noise. They feel tired & irritated. The incessant traffic outside the colony has made the residents' life miserable. What more can you accept from your house locality if it cannot give you peace? Residents said the noise doesn't even stop for a minute, it is there all time.

Atul Gupta, a senior architect and President of Architects Association, whose house is adjacent to the road, said, “All night we hear sound. Whenever we try to sleep, we are afraid someone will honk and again and we will wake up. Our children are not able to concentrate on their studies and how they will deal with such noises every time. Noise pollution is more here in comparison to other pollution. Most of the people living here are retired personnel, they are senior people. It is badly impacting everyone’s health."

Anuj Rajput, an advocate in Delhi High Court, living near this road, said, "Since this elevated road has started, a lot of noise is there in lane 1 itself. We cannot stop the usage of this road but noise-reducing pads can be installed in the patches of the elevated road passing through residential areas. Old people are getting disturbed."
