Roadside hanging and lying down wires, a grave danger in Dwarka

Dwarka: Cable and internet wires lying down on the roads have become a nuisance in the city. Such wires can be seen overhead also attached to the streetlight poles across the sub-city along the roads. Moreover, the master plan main roads are too afflicted with this problem as these wires can be seen running along the central verge or on the side of such main roads.

Hanging wires pose a threat to commuters

At major Chowks, wires can be seen lying on the ground at dividers and at zebra crossings, all meshed up. These wires are posing danger to the pedestrians and the commuters as anyone could entangle in them and fall. It seems that the operators have left these wires deliberately so that they could use them again, anytime.
SK Sharma a resident of Sector 13 said “ Such hanging wires are not allowed anywhere but here mostly the cable and internet wires are seen hanging hap-hazardously on roads side along the central verge of the roads and even over the roads. You can see it at the signals of Sector 13/14 in front of Om and Kautilya Apartments Sector 14.”

At some places, the wires can be seen lying down on the ground just in the middle of the zebra crossing. Nidhi Singh a resident of Sector 4 said, “Wires lying on the roads near Chowks are very dangerous. Once I fell down at Ashirvad Chowk after getting my foot entangled in a wire lying at the Zebra Crossing. This is surprising that neither the DDA nor the Municipal Corporation takes this issue seriously. They should make the roads safe by removing such wires.”

officials in the civic bodies such as DDA, MCD and BSES point that the cable operators and the internet service providers and operators mainly use their poles and the other such things to install their cables, something which is not allowed. Multiple jurisdictions of civic bodies on the road make the issue complicated and difficult to resolve.

Community members allege that the practice of using the infrastructure of DDA, SDMC and BSES by the private cable and internet operators is known to the authorities but they do not take action. On the subject  Deputy General Manager, Streetlight, BSES, Dwarka, SK Dagar said, “Such practice is done by private cable operators and internet operators. We take action for our poles and clean those wires. We have also written a letter to MCD and DDA to take action in areas under their jurisdiction so that such grave danger to public safety could be avoided."
