When it comes to handicrafts and handlooms, India undoubtedly has a rich legacy that has withstood the test of time. These artists come from far-off small nooks and corners of the country. There is no better opportunity to indulge in their creativity and artistry than to visit the Dastkar exhibition of Delhi. Artisans from numerous small towns and villages churn out masterpieces with their hands in this unique event.

The Grand Handloom Fair, Dastkar, started on November 19th and will go on till November 28.

A metro ride to Chattarpur metro station on the yellow line metro followed by a small auto-rickshaw ride to Nature Bazaar, Andheria Modh, New Delhi will take one to the fair. The entry ticket for the fair is 30 rupees. Dastkar currently works in 22 states all over India. One would find here a wide range of handcrafted art in terracotta, metal, embroideries, furniture and basketry.

Here you will see artists from 19-60 years old and beyond displaying their work. In this mela, you can shop for every kind of product from dresses to comb to healthy pickles. The fair has some unique offerings. Such as totally oil-free pickles, baked potato snacks, and much more in Asha Namkeen shop. Some other exciting shops include Dejunk where you can shop for cushions, carpets, shawls and much more. The interesting part about Dejunk is that everything you find here is recycled from industrial waste.

Every shop that you will see here has a special story. A simple conversation will these artists is a treat in interesting stories. In total, there are 73 stalls from different states of India. There is also a dry fruit store from Afghanistan. It is the only international participant

Another edition of Dastkar “Winter Mela” will start from December 16th to December 27th at the same location. There will be a new set of artists in this  second edition of Winter Mela.
