Mayfair Residency: Residents agitate for basic amenities

Miffed by the lack of basic amenities, the residents of Mayfair Residency, a high-rise residential society in Techzone 4, Greater Noida West, have been protesting consecutively for the twenty-third week, against the builder in the society premises on Sunday, November 28. Residents demanded a well-constructed approach road, adequate supply of water and electricity.

The residents of Mayfair Residency have been holding their protest every Sunday morning, consecutively, for the last 23 weeks in the society premises itself. For the last month, this protest has been mainly highlighting the issue of waterlogging in the society’s basement even though other issues remain unresolved. On November 8, 2021, residents had filed a complaint in the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) about waterlogging. In the complaint, the residents also alleged that construction waste was being dumped in the basement.

Earlier, in October 2021, residents had also filed a complaint to Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) in which they mentioned the issue of dumping garbage or construction and demolition waste inside the society. The residents also showed concern about the lack of security. They pointed that the society deploys only two security guards during morning hours and one during the night, which is far from adequate. As per the residents, the society doesn’t have any support staff to maintain the society.

The society has 12 residential towers, out of which, eight are under construction. About 70 families live in the four towers of society. Residents shared that the towers of the society do not have an Occupancy Certificate and Completion Certificate (OC/CC). The towers have only one lift which does not work properly. Society has been under construction for the last 11 years.

Ravi Chaudhry (35), a resident of the society says, “We have been protesting against the builder for the last six months but the condition of the society is the same. For the last one month, we have been complaining about the water logging issue. We fear that the pillars would have gone weak. The life of the residents is at risk. We have been complaining about this issue to the Greater Noida Authority regularly.”

Another Resident, Himanshu (36) says, “We have been fighting to get some basic amenities for ourselves. There is no proper water supply. There are so many open wires on the premises. All the four working towers have only one lift, which is not working properly. There is no auto rescue system in the lifts. We are not demanding a swimming pool or a club, our demand is only for basic amenities. We have been living in this society at our own risk. All our complaints to the Greater Noida authority also fell on deaf years.”

From the office of the builder, Maya says, “All the issues will be resolved soon. We are working on the issue of waterlogging in the basement.”
