Cricket and Bollywood have been having a long and successful partnership over the years. The coming up movie 83 is yet another episode in this long journey. In a country where people are crazy about cricket and love movies, it is but natural to tell tales of historic Indian cricket wins through films. One such historic Indian win that is coming to be represented on the silver screen is the 1983 World Cup win. Kabir Khan directed '83', having Ranveer Singh in the lead role supported with an ensemble cast is all set to release in theatres on December 24, 2021. The trailer of the highly anticipated film was launched recently and has left the audience asking for more.

The film depicts how an underdog cricket team led by Kapil Dev, the man who accomplished the unthinkable, went on to win the ICC World Cup in 1983.

The film stars Ranveer Singh as former Indian captain Kapil Dev. The film chronicles how the Indian cricket team, dubbed as "no one's favourite," moved from underdogs to winning their first World Cup by defeating the reigning champions West Indies.

The trailer begins with India versus Zimbabwe match at the Nevill Ground in England on June 18, 1983. Team India is batting but struggling to get runs until Kapil Dev comes in and turns the game on its head by leading his team to victory. For those who don't know, India won the next match against Australia on June 20 and then faced West Indies in the final on June 25.

Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh's wife, and actress plays Kapil Dev's wife Romi Bhatia onscreen and steals the show as soon as she is on screen. At a get-together, the players can be seen joking about Kapil Dev's determination to win the World Cup by defeating the West Indies.

Ranveer Singh pulled out all the stops to change himself into Kapil Dev. Right from dialect to dialogue delivery to body language, he has got everything right on track. Those who witnessed the World Cup went on a trip down memory lane watching the trailer. For those who hadn't heard of the fad, the trailer provided us with a taste of what it was all about.

This Kabir Khan venture appears to have hit all the right notes. The large cast includes the Indian cricket World Cup squad. Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Harrdy Sandhu, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, and Jiiva Dhairya Karva, among others play different Indian players.
