Mayfair Residency: Residents demand proper infrastructure

The protest against the builder of their housing society for better living conditions by the residents of Mayfair Residency, a housing society in Techzone 4, continues. This was the 24th weekend when the residents came out and protested in their housing society. The residents are demanding better roads, proper drinking water supply, electrical connection, car parking and other facilities.

CitySpidey visited the society and found that the lift shafts in the housing society were open, construction waste was being dumped in the basement, and there was waterlogging in several parts of the apartments.

Construction waste being dumped in the basement

Residents shared that the water has been logged in the basement for the last two months. The seepage from the pillars of the basement is a perennial issue. On November 8, 2021, the residents had filed a complaint in the
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) about waterlogging. In the complaint, the residents also alleged that construction waste was being dumped in the basement.

Earlier in October 2021, residents had also filed a complaint in Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) where they mentioned the issue
of dumping garbage or construction and demolition waste inside the society. Residents also raised security issues, especially with regard to apartment boundary walls, which the residents pointed is broken from several parts. the . The residents also pointed out that the society deploys only two security guards during morning hours and one during the night, which is far from
adequate. Moreover, there are no CCTV cameras installed in society.

The housing society also lacks proper fire safety equipment. The hose pipes were found to be in poor condition and are practically unusable in case of any fire emergency. Society has a temporary electrical connection, and the residents are demanding an electricity grid in the society.

Society under construction

The society has 12 residential towers, out of which, eight are under construction. About 70 families live in the four towers of society. Residents shared that the towers of the society do not have an Occupancy Certificate and Completion Certificate (OC/CC). The towers have only one lift which does not work properly. Society has been under construction for the last 11 years.

A senior resident, Ramesh Chandra(69) says, "I have lived here for the last one year. I booked my house in 2010. They promised to give me possession within four years. But due to the Builders and Authority's conflicts, it was delayed. Society is under construction and we have to live here. The builder gave me a half-completed flat, I completed it with my own money. We covered the lift shaft ourselves with the help of tin sheets, for our security. I have invested my whole savings in this flat. The senior citizens, such as I, are particularly inconvenienced due to the malfunctioning lift."

Another resident, Pawan Pandey says, "I booked my flat in the year 2011 and I took possession in April 2019. We were waiting for the possession for many years. I gave full payment in 2017. In 2019 I was given possession of a half-completed flat. The builder had said that things will gradually improve but the living conditions are still quite poor.  The supply of water is very bad. It was recently found that the TDS content in the water being supplied to our homes is more than 300pm. Tower D does not have a water tank, the water is being supplied from the tank of Tower C and B."

Vivek Samarth says, "For me, it was very difficult to take possession. Every time the builder gave excuses. The flat was half completed. There were no gates, taps, or tiles. There is no support from the maintenance staff. After taking possession, proper drinking water supply is one of the major issues we were facing. We have to buy bought water for drinking and bathing also. We have been raising the issue of water, electricity, second elevator for a long time but nothing positive has come out of it yet."
