It doesn't take long for a dream to turn into a nightmare, and Lakshya Aggarwal will willingly testify to that. It's just been 21 days that he got possession of his house in Mahagun Moderne, Sector 78, Noida, and on the night of September 26, a large chunk of plaster came off the bedroom ceiling.
Luckily, he lives alone — and he had gone to the washroom just minutes before the incident. That's when he heard a loud thud from the bedroom and saw chunks of plaster lying on the floor.
"I shudder to think what would have happened had the ceiling collapsed on me," Aggarwal said. "It took me a few minutes to get over the shock when I saw what had happened. I informed Mahagun officials immediately but it was only next afternoon that repairs were started. I have also noticed that the ceiling of the second bedroom has started developing cracks. The quality of construction is shocking."
He had shifted into Flat No 2054 on September 5.
When City Spidey contacted Prabhat Srivastava, vice-president of the facility, he tried to brush off the incident as sheer bad luck! "It was a maintenance issue, really," he said. "Repair work has already started. This incident is the first of its kind in the society. It's not a case of inferior-quality construction," he added.
Bad luck or not, the incident should certainly serve as a wake-up call to the Mahagun management. More so given Mahagun Moderne is just about one-and-a-half years old, with 2,500 out of the 3,000 flats already occupied.
