Retired Jet Airways pilot kills himself after argument with wife

A 61-year-old retired pilot shot himself dead at his residence in Mavilla Apartment, a residential society in Mayur Vihar Phase I, around 4 pm on October 1.

According to the police, Kumar was a kidney patient and had recently retired from Jet Airways due to his medical condition. “His wife Rajlaxmi and daughter Abhilasha had gone to Germany and that had infuriated him. When they returned on Friday, an argument ensued between the two. On Saturday, after a heated argument he took out his licensed pistol and fired at his wife,” said a police official.

“The bullet missed her and hit a wall. His wife and his daughter immediately fled to the flat of MS Balakrishanan, their neighbour and the president of the society,” he added.

When City Spidey spoke to Balakrishanan, he said, “Within a minute of the mother and daughter reaching my flat, we heard another round fired. We rushed to the flat and found Kumar lying in a pool of blood on the bed. I informed the police immediately.”

The police reached the spot after 30 minutes and sent the body for post-mortem.

SK Mathur, secretary of Mavilla Apartment’s managing committee, said that the deceased’s wife and daughter had gone to meet his elder daughter, who lives in Germany, a couple of weeks ago.

The mother and daughter haven’t given a statement yet as they are in a state of shock. The police is investigating the case. Kumar had been living in flat number E-712 since 1985 when the society was formed.
